The Society of Professional Journalists at CMU is a professional development organization for future media professionals. Each year, we choose an investigative project to hone our skills, while producing quality journalism at the same time. We decided to explore the topics of sexual assault and domestic violence because they are taboo issues that many people feel uncomfortable talking about. Journalists have a responsibility to tell important stories, but also strive to minimize harm for vulnerable populations. This is something that was extremely important through the process of our reporting.
